TACA Arts Insider with Texas Counter Fitters
Beyond the Slabs: How Texas Counter Fitters Champions the Arts
In Texas Counter Fitters’ luminous, gallery-like showroom, stone is elevated to art. That perspective extends beyond design into philanthropy, championing arts organizations that spark imagination and open doors.
Can you share how Texas Counter Fitters got started and how the company has evolved over the years?
Driven by a passion for craftsmanship and innovation, Texas Counter Fitters has a unique journey. The company was founded to create a culture rooted in respect, care, and excellence. From beautiful curated stone quarried from around the world, to the Richardson showroom that now features more than 200,000 stones, the company has grown tremendously over the past 14 years.
Today, it is a thriving operation with over 100 employees, many of whom have been with the company since its early days. Texas Counter Fitters has created a rare culture of loyalty and shared achievement. The company continues to expand with the goal of becoming a premier worldwide destination for natural stone, which they view not just as building material but as artwork created by the earth.
For Texas Counter Fitters, stone is art. Their showroom is intentionally designed more like an art gallery or museum. They want people, especially kids, to feel inspired by creativity, whether through painting, sculpting, theater, or music. That is one of the reasons supporting TACA is so meaningful.
What has Texas Counter Fitters learned from making philanthropy a priority?
At Texas Counter Fitters, giving back is at the heart of the mission. One of their most meaningful projects has been supporting After 8 to Educate, and connecting them with Dallas Art Therapy. After visiting the After 8 to Educate shelter in Dallas, it became clear that the facility lacked a dedicated art therapy space, a vital resource for Dallas ISD students coping with homelessness. Texas Counter Fitters stepped in to create an inspiring room designed for healing and self-expression through the arts.
While on site, they also noticed the kitchen was in serious need of improvement. Recognizing its importance for teaching students skills in culinary arts, Texas Counter Fitters replaced all of the counters and transformed the space into a modern, functional kitchen where students could learn in a professional environment.
The impact of this work continues today. With funding provided to Dallas Art Therapy, licensed therapists now use the renovated art therapy center for ongoing sessions. What began as a renovation has grown into a program that empowers students with opportunities for creativity and education. Their artwork will be showcased and sold at Rocktoberfest, an Art & Music Festival hosted by Texas Counter Fitters. For Texas Counter Fitters, this is what giving back means: identifying real needs, creating lasting solutions, and helping to build brighter futures.
Why is supporting TACA meaningful to you?
Partnering with TACA has been a natural fit because of the organization’s wide reach across the Dallas arts community. TACA’s ability to identify where resources are needed most ensures that Texas Counter Fitters’ support truly makes an impact. Sponsoring TACA’s Perforum last year was especially meaningful because it gave artists and arts organizations the opportunity to come together to exchange ideas, spark creativity, and bring inspiration back to their communities.
For Texas Counter Fitters, this type of partnership reaffirms why they give back. Through TACA they are able to connect that belief with other forms of artistic expression, from performance to education to therapy. Whether it is supporting students, helping fund art therapy for underserved youth, or ensuring access to creative opportunities, their work with TACA represents a shared commitment to keeping art of all kinds accessible, inspiring, and transformative for the Dallas community.
