Arts Insider with Mark Agnew
As a new volunteer for the TACA Development Committee, what drives you to elevate your commitment by joining the Arts Aficionados program?
The diversity of arts organizations in Dallas is truly remarkable, and I’m eager to delve deeper into this vibrant community through my involvement with TACA. I was astonished by the wide array of organizations that TACA supports, and I am passionate about helping to expand this reach, ensuring that future generations can experience and appreciate the arts.
What is your arts origin story? How did your passion for the arts begin?
My passion for the arts was ignited by travel and family influences from a young age. Growing up in a musical household, with a father who played the drums and a mother who played the piano, I was surrounded by music. Although my parents never pressured me to play an instrument, one of my biggest regrets is quitting piano lessons. I vividly remember visiting Paris at the age of eight and being mesmerized by the Mona Lisa at the Louvre. Trips to Washington, D.C., where I explored numerous museums, also left a lasting impression. Singing in the church choir, we performed musicals to fundraise for summer tours to places like NYC, Chicago, and Prague. In college, I took a photography class and minored in journalism to complement my business degree at SMU. Studying abroad in London further fueled my passion as I continued to explore museums, live music, and theater.
Why did you choose to support TACA?
As a proud Dallasite, I am committed to amplifying and promoting our city’s rich arts community. I believe that the arts enrich our lives, making our community more vibrant and exposing us to diverse perspectives. Whether it’s modern art, a Broadway show, photography, or literature, Dallas offers an abundance of cultural experiences. Through TACA, I am rediscovering my inner child and the joy of the arts, and I am excited to support the incredible organizations that TACA champions.
