HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical is a vibrant, rebellious, and deeply human theatrical experience presented by Arts Mission Oak Cliff. Set against the backdrop of the 1960s counterculture revolution, HAIR transformed AMOC’s historic sanctuary into an immersive environment where the audience and performers shared the same space. With unconventional seating that placed viewers inside the world of the tribe, the production dissolved the boundary between stage and spectator, inviting each person to become part of the movement.

Arts Mission Oak Cliff [AMOC] is a sanctuary for local artists. Housed in a restored church, the arts center is an intersection for a diverse community to connect, create, and play. The original sanctuary offers a space for full productions and workshops, and the half-basement, nicknamed “The Underground”, is lined with Sunday School classrooms transformed into creative workspaces. AMOC hosts six artists/arts groups in residence annually, offers affordable production and rehearsal space, and partners with local artists to host classes, workshops, concerts, vendor fairs, and more. The organization is run by artists, supported by a work exchange program (AMOCX), and continues to adapt and expand its offerings to support the needs of local creatives. 258 Deaf Variety Show: Two-Five-Eight (ASL Slang meaning VERY INTERESTING) was an original cabaret-style show that put Deaf performers and Deaf-friendly performances front and center! Audiences walked into a beautiful candle lit night as our Deaf Hosts guide us through electric evenings filled with dance, circus, clowning, fire and ASL poetry that were specifically curated for Deaf audiences.

Prism Movement Theater aims to provide quality movement theater born of ensemble-based work; emphasizing community outreach, education, and diversity in their work. Jeff Colangelo and Katy Tye founded Prism Movement Theater after collaborating together while both students at Southern Methodist University. Jeff, a fight choreographer, and Katy, an acrobat and dancer found that their particular movement aesthetics could be combined to create entire narratives without using any words. WHAT’S A POP-UP GRANT?

We started our Pop-Up Grant program to shine a light on arts organizations creating programming that demonstrates exceptional quality, innovation, and accessibility safely, without skimping on the creative impact.

HOW DO YOU PICK THE RECIPIENTS?
Grant recipients are meticulously selected via a nomination process that incorporates over 60 anonymous volunteers. Nominations are made each month and a selection committee meets afterward to determine grantees based on our criteria above.
