Okareka Dance Company in "Mana Wahine (Powerful Women)"

New Zealand's Okareka Dance Company will make its Texas debut performing "Mana Wahine (Powerful Women)" on November 1-2 as part of the TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND 2024-25 season. "Mana Wahine" draws on Maori (the Indigenous people of New Zealand) cultural traditions and history to celebrate the power of women. The all-female dancers perform choreography that weaves Ancient Maori practices of karakia/prayer, song/waiata, and mythology with innovative audiovisual effects, including bold projections and original soundscapes.
“From the breathtaking opening when video of the dancers is projected onto their same shrouded forms, we are able to appreciate the stage as a space of playful and imaginative transformation” ~ (theatreview.org.nz).

Nuevo Mundo: A New Directors Festival

For this specific project, we had to find a way of offering elite technical tools to our whole festival of artists while staying within budget. We decided to invest in technology as a means of design, rather than having to pay for the labor and materials associated with scenic design. Our solution: projections. We would love to present some ideas that we have recently been testing regarding floor projections and how to further elevate escapism. Oftentimes, the reason Dallas theatre fails to capture audiences is because we promise a small slice of the big-budget Broadway shows they already know; this offers another step in creating our own identity as a major player in the arts scene that competes with the beauty and spectacle of commercial theatre.

Betty's Notebook

Betty's Notebook was the first classical music NFT sold on the blockchain in 2021. It sold for $375,000 to a collector in India, Metapurse. The proceeds from the sale were used to pay 28 artist collaborators a year's worth of pay for a week's worth of work. The project also engaged Bryan Brinkman, head animator and renderer for Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show.

The Princess and The Pauper

The world premiere of "The Princess and the Pauper" brings to life this story of changing places with modern storytelling and projection mapping in collaboration with Lightware Labs. The choreography by Katie Puder will seamlessly blend classical ballet techniques with modern movements, to create a visually stunning and dynamic production that will keep audiences mesmerized throughout the entire performance. With masterful storytelling and inventive design, this new production offers a fresh interpretation of this story of mistaken identity and societal preconceptions of wealth and class.
