Announcing Our Newest Pop-Up Grantees
Creating and sharing art amidst a global pandemic is no simple task! That is why we created TACA Pop-Up Grants – grants up to $6,000 that are designed to celebrate and reward local arts organizations for programming that demonstrates exceptional quality, creativity & innovation, and accessibility & inclusion. Grantees were selected via a nomination process that incorporates 35 anonymous local volunteers. Pop-Up Grants are an important component of the TACA Resiliency Initiative – a focused effort to support and strengthen Dallas arts and cultural organizations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since August, TACA has awarded $55,000 in unrestricted Pop-Up Grants to support 36 projects. To learn more, visit taca-arts.org/resiliency.
New in 2021 – the Pop-Up Grant program now includes Artist Bonus funds, a new source of funding for individual artists, providing them financial support while the arts continue to feel the impact of the pandemic. Since January, TACA has awarded $35,000 in Pop-Up Artist Bonus funds to support 124 key and supporting artists. To learn more about this exciting addition, click here.

Bold Brilliant Beautiful You!, a film Directed and Choreographed by Artistic Director, Bridget L. Moore honors the cultural heritage of African Americans and their creative contributions to our society. The film highlights the power of perseverance, triumph, and advocates book and reading literacy through movement.

WOOD/SHOP is an exciting new initiative that presents new works by Bruce Wood Dance company dancers showcasing their resiliency and creativity. WOOD/SHOP offers the necessary infrastructure for our choreographers to create and produce new works made for film in collaboration with filmmakers The Digibees. Free to the public on Zoom, the world premiere featured three innovative works by Gabriel Speiller, Megan Storey, and Cole Vernon on February 28. Two more episodes follow spotlighting Weaver Rhodes and Seth York on April 24 and Jaime Borkan and Matthew Roberts on May 23 at 4 PM – 5 PM CST.

Before COVID-19, Dancing Beyond Borders provided Dallas Black Dance Theatre an annual opportunity to expand its audience by bringing its repertoire directly to outside communities. This year, that mission was even more successful as virtual audiences from more than 30 states across the U.S. and five countries worldwide joined DBDT: Encore! for three outstanding works that capture the spectrum of dance from contemporary to street dance.

Liu Xiaodong: Borders presents a new series of works by the contemporary painter, who has tirelessly documented sociological settings for over thirty years. The exhibition is comprised of paintings, diary entries and videos developed from the hundreds of drawings, photographs and footage Xiaodong created throughout two research trips led along the U.S.-Mexico border in 2019.
Dallas Symphony Orchestra

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO) inspires and changes lives through musical excellence. Throughout the 2020/21 Season, the Dallas Symphony has been providing weekly performances for limited audiences with a reduced orchestra in the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. Members of the orchestra have also performed over 150 concerts throughout the community in neighborhoods and local parks, and the organization has invested in new digital technology to share the orchestra’s performances with the world. To further expand the orchestra’s reach, the Dallas Symphony partnered with a mobile music venue, The Concert Truck. The Concert Truck residency, held in November and December 2020 and March 2021, allowed the DSO to present more than 70 live outdoor performances across North Texas.
Turtle Creek Chorale
2021 American Choral Director’s Association Mini-Concert

The 2021 American Choral Director’s Association Mini-Concert included three powerful songs that were shared with over 3,500 attendees of the American Choral Director’s Association virtual conference in mid-March. The Conference was originally slated to be held in here in Dallas with the TCC performing at the opening concert.
