Announcing Our Newest Pop-Up Grantees

Creating and sharing art amidst a global pandemic is no simple task! That is why we created TACA Pop-Up Grants – grants up to $6,000 that are designed to celebrate and reward local arts organizations for programming that demonstrates exceptional quality, creativity & innovation, and accessibility & inclusion. Grantees were selected via a nomination process that incorporates 35 anonymous local volunteers. Pop-Up Grants are an important component of the TACA Resiliency Initiative – a focused effort to support and strengthen Dallas arts and cultural organizations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since August, TACA has awarded $61,000 in unrestricted Pop-Up Grants to support 39 projects. To learn more, visit taca-arts.org/resiliency.

New in 2021 – the Pop-Up Grant program now includes Artist Bonus funds, a new source of funding for individual artists, providing them financial support while the arts continue to feel the impact of the pandemic. Since January, TACA has awarded $43,000 in Pop-Up Artist Bonus funds to support 124 key and supporting artists. To learn more about this exciting addition, click here.

Founded in 1981, Fine Arts Chamber Players (FACP) makes world-class classical music accessible and free for all, through free concerts and free music education. For 40 years, FACP has never charged a ticket price and has never charged tuition while hiring professional musicians and teaching artists for its programs. FACP produces the Hallam Family Concert series (currently hosted online), a monthly, free chamber music series on Saturday afternoons. Each concert features local, professional artists who play in a wide range of ensembles and with repertoire running the gamut from Baroque violin to modern pieces with theatrical readings incorporated.

Clara’s Influence explored the work of Clara Schumann and her influence on her husband Robert, and Johannes Brahms. The afternoon featured the World Premiere of Dallas-based composer Jon Cziner’s “A Household of Three,” an homage to these three great composers and musicians. The featured musicians were Maria Schleuning (DSO violin), Jolyon Pegis (DSO Associate Principal Cello), and pianist Benjamin Loeb.

For Shadows & Light, FACP Artistic Director Emily Levin (DSO Principal Harp) joined sisters Jennifer Choi (DSO cello) and Julia Choi (Metropolitan Opera Orchestra violin) for their first performance of Henriette Renié’s Trio for violin, cello and harp, a virtuosic tour de force that revolutionizes the established conventions of this ensemble. Both concerts were followed by CODA: a live Q&A with the artists via Zoom.

The Poetry of Expression: Part I & II

The mission of Texas Ballet Theater (TBT) is to create, present and tour world-class ballet, from classical to cutting–edge, and promote its appreciation, accessibility, and technical mastery among students, pre-professionals, and audiences of all ages. TBT proudly serves as a resident company for the AT&T Performing Arts Center Campus in Dallas and Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth. Under the superb artistic direction of Ben Stevenson, O.B.E., Texas Ballet Theater boasts a repertoire that is creative, expressive, and collaborative. Choreographed by Texas Ballet Theater Company Dancers, The Poetry of Expression: Parts I & II features four world premieres that evoke a sense of wonder, hope, and fantasy as audiences follow TBT on a digital journey created specifically for audiences to enjoy from home. The new works combine the artistry of ballet with the masterful architecture and unique forms of North Texas landmarks and cultural institutions, including the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, Sammons Center for the Arts, Fort Worth Water Gardens, and more.

Theatre Three is a 59-year Dallas institution whose mission is to illuminate the human experience with exemplary intimate theatre by nurturing authors, artists, and audiences. Love and Kindness in the Time of Quarantine offered perspective in a time of uncertainty. Through a blend songs and monologues, this heartfelt and compassionate new work led by Regina Taylor featured nationally renowned writers and local Dallas artists.
